What's new in Formidable 2?

Formidable 2.10 - the leading digital writing platform, including support for iPad.
We love digital pens and believe they are the most natural devices to use for capturing written data. But, things change. The interest for iPad and other tablets are exploding and now they have found their way into enterprise. Instead of seeing them as a threat, let's join the revolution!

Natural complement
From version 2.9 of Formidable we offer both digital pens and iPads as input devices. And they co-exist perfectly in Formidable. Creating an iPad application works in the same way as paper applications by using the Formidable DesignTool. You may create specific applications for iPad or applications that works with both pens and iPads. The choice is yours.
You buy tablet licenses in Formidable in the same way as pen licenses.


iPad

Introducing naturalFORMS
The app we use for iPad is naturalFORMS and you find it in App Store. Version 1.3 will be released within a couple of days and that is the version you need.

With naturalFORMS for iPad you complete forms using the optimum input method for each type of field. Input methods include printed and cursive handwriting, checkbox and radio button input, option lists for easy selection of common items, visual inputs such as a date and time wheels, and a virtual keyboard if necessary.

Instant validation
One of the greatest benefits is that the information can be validated at the point of entry. The tablet can notify the user about missing fields to make sure that the final data is complete.
Vision Objects' handwriting recognition engine MyScript is included in naturalFORMS and you can use all lexicons, subsets and regular expressions you are used to do.

Advanced graphics, photo and voice inputs are also supported by naturalFORMS and Formidable. Users can take a photo with the iPad camera and attach to the form, make notes or mark-up diagrams or schematics, and create freehand drawings. The solution also captures handwritten signatures. naturalFORMS even captures GPS coordinates.
A version for Android will be released Q1 2012.



Features in earlier versions


New languages and alphabets
Formidable 2.7 supports 88 handwriting styles divided into two categories, Languages (as usual) and now also Alphabets.

The more extensive Languages includes both isolated (boxed) and cursive writing style and contains a full set of alphabet and intelligent linguistic resources for recognition of any type of written items. Formidable supports 30 languages.

New languages for this release are Kazakh and Hebrew.
The more limited, yet powerful, Alphabets (88 writing styles) supports isolated writing style, has support for boxed fields and contains country-specific sets of characters, numerals and symbols.

With this implementation, we cover almost the whole world!



Split document view
With the new Viewer in Formidable 2.6 you are able to customize the viewer experience even more. Validate forms in Split document mode where both the handwriting document and the associated result is presented at the same time. View it side by side or on top of each other.

Fully Dynamic Forms
WIth the Fully Dynamic Forms function you may create the form from scratch via an xml-file. Set different background images from document to document, vary number of pages within the same form, change or create new widgets with or without pre-population with full control over the handwriting properties.
The possibilities are endless!



Correction
Have you ever wanted to correct your mistakes? Now you can.
Correction allow users to intuitively correct writing mistakes directly on the paper during the process of writing. Correction can be enabled directly in the DesignTool or programatically in the fully dynamic forms process when printing directly from a backend system.

Roles and admin levels
It is now possible to define roles for different users. A user can be set as Admin, Printer, Designer, Viewer and/or Clerk. It is also possible to create new pen-less users. Pen-less users do not need any user licenses and you can create as many as you want.

Hide pattern
Don't want pattern all over the page when you print?
WIth Formidable 2.6 you are able to hide pattern on the page, partial or for the whole page.

Organisations
You can now configure Formidable for multiple Organisations including assigning administrator rights for the Organisations. The Organisations are separate entities in Formidable and allows for hosting several customers or departments on the same server with full privacy between them.

Barcode reading
Formidable 2 is enabled for Barcode reading. In DesignTool it is possible to add a checkbox which puts the pen in a barcode reading mode. The read barcode is exported via the standard XML file.

PenPusher dialogue
It is possible, without any programming skills, to extend the PenPusher mobile dialogue with editable fields and file upload directly from the DesignTool. You can now create a validation field for the mobile phone with just a click!

Branding
Formidable can now be customised in the Home screen, the Home logo and the Viewer logo. Different organisation can have their own branding on the same server. The Home screen can either be a PNG file or a complete Flash file that allows for almost any functionality in the home screen.

Notebook
With this release we offer you a really nice Notebook. The Notebook contains basic notebook functionality with its own Viewer where you can view and edit your notebook(s) in an intuitive and paper like way. You can easily brand it with your own cover and you may also print your notebooks in small amounts with your own laser printer.

GPS support
New GPS tracking functionality is added to PenPusher for J2ME, Blackberry and Windows Mobile. The PenPusher now delivers, if you wish, coordinates every second minute to enable tracking of the users.




Administration Dashboard
The Dashboard contains information about your system. See the latest submits, system load, print volumes and users divided per role etc.
